Santa Fe Budd RDC-1 DC-191 has been preserved at the Pacific Railroad Society. Last operated by the Santa Fe in April 1968, this unit has been a popular subject for models with N-scale (Kato), HO-scale (Proto 1000) and G-scale (Aristocraft) models of it available.
Stuart tells us:
I do not know all of the details of its history since leaving Santa Fe but I do know that it was owned by PAT Transit (Pittsburgh) and the Maryland Department of Transportation. MDOT (MARC) sold it to Illinois Transit Assembly (ITAC) (a well known private car shop). PRS acquired it from ITAC by trading a Pullman sleeper for it.
Looking up DC-191 in the Duke and Keilty book reveals: Road Number DC191, Budd Builders Number 5603, built April 29th 1952. Notes: wrecked at Redondo Junction, California on January 23rd 1956, rebuilt at Santa Fe Shops at Topeka, Kansas, in 1958. Sold to Baltimore and Ohio as No 1913 in 1970.
Stuart continues:
The RDC and all of the other PRS equipment is located just west of the intersection of Herbert Ave and Noakes Street in City of Commerce, CA Work parties are every Saturday, the public is welcome to visit. The first plans for the car are to paint it in Santa Fe red and yellow colors. Mechanically the car is incomplete and needs lots of parts and work. Any leads on acquiring parts would be appreciated.
